I love flowers. They’re so beautiful and calming and whether it’s a small bunch I pick up on the way home from work or a rose bush growing in someone’s garden they always brighten my day. But the flowers at George V in Paris take what you thought flowers could be to another level. The sheer volume alone is just stunning; Jeff Leatham, the Artistic Director of the hotel, and his team receive 12,000 flowers each week driven in from Amsterdam to adorn the interior of George V.
I have Jeff’s book ‘Revolutionary Floral Art and Design’ and when I was in Paris in January I knew I wanted to drop by George V and see his creations in person and myyyy were they everything and more. Anyone interested in a giant mirrored polar bear surrounded by flowers? Me.
What a talent. What a mind. And what an amazing job.
Plenty of hotels have in-house florists which is cool enough as it is but Leatham and his team, whether it’s down to the budget, the creativity or the flowers on offer to them, create installations and arrangements so far beyond the realms of possibility that the flowers alone take people to the hotel. And if the flowers are drawing guests to George V then there must be something even greater keeping them coming back for more.
