Bono is a bit like Marmite, you either love him or hate him. But there’s no denying he has a decent heart and does great work for people in the poorest countries who aren’t able to help themselves. In 2006 Bono and Bobby Shriver founded Product (RED), an initiative to raise money for The Global Fund in its fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. Product (RED) is a brand that is licensed to partner companies who each create a product with the Product (RED) logo and then pass on a percentage of the profits from the sales to The Global Fund. But in the case of the partnership between W Hotels and Product (RED), all proceeds are given to The Global Fund and W London is raising money by hosting a (RED) fundraising party, selling W Hotels signature W badges, hosting exclusive film screenings at W Film Club, and creating the beautifully tasting and looking Glitte(RED) cocktail. The cocktail is a colourful mix of Belverere (RED), Aperol, amaretto, raspberry puree, vanilla syrup, apple and lemon juice finished with an explosion of glittering popping candy. Verrrry drinkable.
I love this whole idea and collaboration. A lot of hotels are struggling financially at the moment so it’s great to see one taking on such a worthy cause and creating a cocktail people are going to love with all the proceeds going to The Global Fund. Collaborations of any kind bring products, causes, companies and brands to the attention of people who otherwise wouldn’t be aware of them and the partnership between Product (RED) and W Hotels is one that is admirable, worthwhile and completely spot on. Glitte(RED) is available at W Lounge and Wyld but only for the next month so do the easiest and most enjoyable bit of charity work you’ll ever do and sip on this glittering fruity vodka cocktail at W London.
