I love rooftop bars, especially when the sun is shining and the drinks are a-flowing. But I was beginning to think a roof bar is just a roof bar and like every other one out there… until I went to Barcelona.
During a long weekend in the city I stayed at B Hotel on Gran Via opposite Plaza Espanya. Our room was angular and spacious with a massive bed and a freestanding TV. It was decorated in muted tones and the concrete pillar and interesting light fittings made it feel like trendy New York studio apartment. I liked the room but the pièce de résistance was a couple of storeys up.
On the roof is B Pool and between sightseeing and tapas eating we spent time there topping up our tans and thinking how peaceful it was compared to London. Although the pool wasn’t huge it was the perfect place to cool down in the Spanish sun sipping on an ice cold drink from the bar while looking out at the city below. It was never busy and fairly peaceful, and I couldn’t help but think if I ever own or design a hotel a pool on the roof is a definite must.
In addition to the pool the terrace was kitted out with sun beds and comfy seats, and to the left stood a small bar which served food and cocktails throughout the day.
It would be an epic place for a party in the summer or to spend New Year, and standing on the terrace looking out I felt quite privileged. It’s not every day (or any day) you find a chilled roof in a city where you can swim with a cosmo in hand while admiring the view, but at B Hotel you can. So get there and live the high life for a few hours. You’ll love it.
